One of the best parts of living in the Triangle is that moments like this are normal.
The Pullen Park Holiday Express is truly magical. Anyone who says otherwise is absolutely the Grinch. But like most things with young kids, the experience is all about knowing how to do it with less stress and more joy.
We went with a five year old and a one year old, and it was one of those nights that reminded me why so many families choose to put down roots here.
When you book tickets online, try to grab the 4:30 pm entry time if you can. That is right when the doors open.
It matters more than you think.
At that time, it is still light out, you can park right in front of the entrance, and there are no shuttles or long walks. That alone removes half the stress if you have small kids.
Once inside, go straight to the train. Do not wander first. At 4:30 pm there is little to no line, and you can usually hop on one of the first few trains that loop the park. The ride is about six minutes, so even if you miss one, the wait is short.
After the train, head to the carousel or Santa. Santa lines fill up quickly, so if that is important to your family, do it early. We skipped Santa this year and did not feel like we missed anything. There is so much happening throughout the park.
Do not miss the Christmas elevator.
It is a simulator-style ride that takes you on a magical trip to the North Pole. When you exit, you walk into a small reindeer stable with Santa’s reindeer and a sled that makes for the sweetest photos.
This was the biggest hit of the night for us.
One of the things I love most about this event is that it is not rushed.
There are games everywhere, a DJ hosting a fake snowball fight, playground time, and endless photo spots once the park lights up after dark. The bridges and ponds are especially beautiful in the evening.
The Raleigh Fire Department even hosts a s’mores station that is perfect for younger kids.
Everything is included in the ticket price. No add-ons. No extra wristbands. No constant pulling out your wallet.
We stayed about an hour and a half and felt like we truly did everything. We easily could have ridden the train twice. Your ticket time is an entrance into the park, not a single ride window, which makes the whole experience feel much more relaxed.
This is what Triangle living looks like.
It is not just about the house. It is about the lifestyle wrapped around it. Family-friendly events, walkable parks, community traditions, and a pace of life that still leaves room to breathe.
When clients tell me they want a place where their kids can grow up with experiences like this, I know exactly what they mean. These moments are why neighborhoods matter. Proximity to parks, schools, greenways, and community spaces shapes everyday life in ways that floor plans never show.
When you work with me, we do not just talk about bedrooms and price points. We talk about how you want your life to feel.
I help clients understand which areas of the Triangle align with their stage of life, their commute, their schools, and their version of “Friday night fun.” Whether that is holiday events at Pullen Park, neighborhood block parties, or quiet streets with room to ride bikes, the details matter.
Relocating families often tell me they feel overwhelmed by choices here. That is where experience and local insight make a difference. I guide clients through not just buying a home, but choosing a community that fits their family now and for years to come.
For kids seven and under, absolutely. It is magical, well staffed, and thoughtfully done. Older kids may age out of it quickly, but for young families, it is one of those traditions that becomes part of your story.
Go with a wandering mindset. Plan smart. Let the night unfold.
And if you are looking for a place where nights like this are part of everyday life, the Triangle delivers.
